I wonder if there will be prosecutions if some food outlets outside of Cornwall don't drop the Cornish from their signs etc.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I get the picture, but Cornish Pasty stretches the credulity a bit. Who would want to bootleg that particularly vile local brand of inedible snack?

That'll be pasty not pastie me lover. Won't matter none anyway, as best pasty I ever had was made by a Canadian down 'druth.

They're only doing this 'cos no bugger in Cornwall ever wins the best Cornish Pasty Competition. At least now we're in with a chance.

I knew that me beauty, but I was copying the spelling in the article so as not to confuse those North of the Tamar.
As for the Canadian 'down 'druth', he was no doubt taught by a local but they will have to be good to beat some of the ones in other parts of the county country.

There is also another one on the list which is "Cornish Clotted Cream" which can't be called that if it's not produced in Cornwall.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't get me started on Clotted Cream, my brother's father-in-law is a Rodda so we have some set ideas on where Cornish Clotted Creams needs to come from.

Yes, I know Ginsters also have a manufacturing plant in Cornwall, but the whole thing to me stinks of a tactic to promote their product and prevent other people from readily producing "real" cornish pasties. Oh look! Samworth Brothers helped fund the bid for PGI. Now there's a surprise!

The Ginsters pie are very good and I like them but they could never be considered a Cornish Pasty by those who have tasted a true traditionally made one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My point exactly. Ginsters market their pies as "Original Cornish Pasties" and make a big song and dance about being genuine Cornish Pasties.

Pasties pale into insignificance when compared against a genuine piemeister™ steak and kidney pie. There's no need to travel to Prince Charlie's distant fiefdom when a superior product is available in the kingdom of Yorkshire.

Pasties are fine in their own right but I've yet to eat one that makes me piene for another.

Perhaps you haven't eaten the right ones? Anne's pasties at The Lizard used to be a benchmark, although if my experience this year is anything to go by, they are not a patch on what they used to be.

However, from having to seek a good pasty out in Cornwall, there are now a shedload of small producers there that make them, albeit largely on a local basis. I don't know who manufactures them but the cafes at Treen and Porthcurno have pasties that are worth a visit just to have one.

On a non-pasty note, go to Trevaskis Farm to drool at the dessert counter. (Homer voice) So much cream....

Believe me, I have eaten the right ones and many wrong ones too. I've explored the length and breadth of Pastyland by bike and car over the past fifteen years. I have eaten great pasties and some truly awful ones but my pies are definitely better.

I now have a waiting list....

On the basis of the Ark Royal a couple of years or so ago thinking those pasties were good enough to send a boat to shore just to collect some, we tried them. Good, I'll concede that, but there's strong competition now.
