I think our education system is a bit of a joke.
I've had apprentices come out with me who've had a mixture of GCSE's, A levels and degree's. You have to teach half of them how to say please/thankyou. Half of them think it's my job to entertain them and do all the work while they play on their I-phone.
Most of them don't know stuff most people take for granted. Most of them don't know any history of this country at all e.g. why do you call Paul Lancaster "Bombhead" ? Yes, a 24 year old Uni graduate has never heard of a Lancaster Bomber !
My nephew is not that bright though he is a lovely lad. He's half way through a business degree, he has about 10 GCSE's and 3 A levels. I've never seen or heard of him studying. He never reads books. He plays football and tennis, works all weekend at Tesco and then sees his girlfriend. His Uni course is about 12 hours a week or something like that.
I think it's like the emperors new clothes. Someone needs to stand up and say that for what our education costs us as a nation and then the students with their fees, we don't get much bang for buck do we.
