Filled our car; a Kia Ceed from near empty yeaterday and it cost £60.
It reminded me of an occasion in 2003 when I was waiting to pay for filling my car at the time; a Ford Fiesta. Whilst in the queue, I heard the lass behind the till exclaim 'Sixty pounds -! What are you driving, a tank - ?' to the customer she was serving. He said that it was a Range Rover.
So it occurred to me that assuming a modern Range Rover has the same size fuel tank, how much would it now cost to fill one up now - ?

I never looked at the pump when filling up my V8 Discoveries unless I was filling with LPG in which case I had a big smile on my face ^_^

On the way home from holiday last Friday I filled the Merc up - it was nearly empty - and nearly feinted at the £104.27 I had to pay :hyper:

I think our 200 Tdi Discovery had an 88 Litre tank, so 83 litres x £1.89 is £160.65,as 83 litres would be as low as anyone would dare go,as it was basically a Range Rover I think the tank would be identical, along with a lot of other parts

i should add it would average between 28 to 35 MPG depending on what kind of use, lower urban, upper on a long motorway run, about 28 MPG towing the caravan, a V8 Range Rover might be at 12 to 18 MPG, and around 10-12 MPG towing a similar sized caravan, so you'd be putting £160 worth in it twice as often!

Clearly they can still afford current prices as roads are just as busy with cars.

It hasn't slowed them down any, either. A brick shaped Range Rover doing 90+mph on the motorway is a sure sign of a driver with money to burn. I was on a ferry crossing last week, 20 minute duration (Dunoon/Gourock). Several cars sat for the entire crossing with engines idling! This was on a pleasantly warm, sunny day; so no usual excuse of having to stay warm and preventing the car from steaming up.

There was a bit on TV this week about the effect of Iran/Hormuz, and apparently some trucks take up to 1000 litres a time to refill.

Wow. Most ferries tell you to turn your engine off for safety reasons.

I remember being a kid in the 80s and watching a man fill up his jaguar.

He finished filling up, then walked to the other side of his car and opened up a second fuel cap to fill the second tank!

Even as a young lad that seemed bonkers.

I remember in 2021 I got my new (to me) Passat and it had a 66 litre tank. Fuel at the time was pricey, and as I was about to do a 750 miles round trip I thought I'd put premium Diesel in. I was a bit shocked when it was £120 odd!

I'm glad that things have moved on a bit. In the 90's you'd be doing well to get 35mpg out of a car. A guy I watch on YT regularly restores and drives old american muscle cars, and he thinks he does well when they don't dip below 15mpg

My F150 has 120 litre tank. I just fill it to 100 litres, most pumps stop pumping at 100 litres.

I average around 16mpg on highway and less than 5mpg on town stop start driving (very rarely do I go into a town)
