I have booked a holiday to the Costa Del Sol for next summer with Thomsons and want to fly my bike over too.I have a Scicon bike travel bag already, but just wondering if anyone knows the cost implications of taking the bike over with me? It doesn't specifically state an amount on their website so thoughtI'd ask on here!

Thanks in advance.

Thomson Airways flights

Sports equipment:

If you're taking sports equipment with you, please call us at least 2 months before you travel on 0203 4512695 to book it onto your flight. Calls cost 10p per minute plus network extras. If you don't book in advance, we might not be able to carry your sports equipment, as there may not be space available on the plane.

Protecting your sports equipment:
We recommend you insure your sports equipment for its replacement value and make sure it's securely packed with zip compartments padlocked. If you're taking a bicycle, we recommend you use a bicycle bag. Handlebars must be turned inwards, pedals removed, tyres deflated and the bicycle must be wrapped in plastic or cardboard.

Visit our baggage allowance page to find out more information on carrying sports equipment.

Never flown a bike with Thompson but FWIW Jet2 charged me nothing going to Lanzarote from Manchester, but they did charge me 35 euros to bring it back.

Apparently I somehow got away with it going out as I should have been charged, but I certainly didn't argue it with them afterwards ;)

Most of the lads in Majorca last week paid £70 from Birmingham.

That sounds right, I used to pay £60 (ish) with other carriers. Nowadays I rent, a decent road bike can be picked up in Malaga for about the same price for a week and it's a lot less hassle. Same shop rents out high end carbon too, though I think they are about 200 Eu per week.

Tried to hire a road bike in Torremellinos a few years ago. I searched that town and only found one shop which only did MTBs. Maybe it's not good road bike country. There is a mountain chain looking down on you. Just stuck to running for my exercise fix.

That's a problem specific to Torremolinos, not Spain, bike hire shops shut down & left that resort when cycling along the very long promenade was banned. Plenty of road bike choice a short tram ride away.
