Could I use this for touring . . .?

Hi all ,

Just bought this second hand of a bike forum, what I would like to know is , if I could with some upgrades
And changes use it as a beginners touring bike ?
Or does anybody have or use this bike, this is my first very newbie venture onto the touring thread.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

You should be able to without many problems.

It has rack mounting attachments, so fit a rear pannier rack. Any will fit but it will be a lot less hassle if you get a disk specific one. Front panniers won't be easy to fit because of the suspension, but unless you are doing a camping tour you probably won't need them anyway.

Other additions I would make would be to add some long bar ends (or even switch to butterfly bars) to give more hand positions, and I personally would like to have mudguards fitted.

Would it be worth sacrificing the front forks, for carbon ones, in case I need front panniers in the future ?
Or leave as it is for now,and see how I go. Funny enough the bike came from south lakes Cumbria.

You'd struggle to get carbon forks that can take panniers;in fact if anything, fitting panniers to the suspension forks would be easier.

I wouldn't bother for now though as between a rear rack and a front bag you should be able to carry everything you need in almost all cases.
