Could you do keepy-uppy when you were a kid?

How many keepy uppys could you usually manage when you were a young'un?

Out walking the hound y'day and came across a young lad doing keepy-uppy, 30, 40 easy as you like. Reminded me of when I was at school, and it was of course one of the key life skills for any boy, so everyone tried to do it, and some could, and some - including me - couldn't. Sometimes I'd get up to five, or even seven, but then the ball would get away from me. But every class had blokes who could just do it, basically indefinitely. So, how many could you do?

Up until my late 20's I could do a few hundred at a time.
I've not really touched a ball since then and I'm almost 45. They say you never loose it.... I doubt that very much!

Think my record as young teen was around the 100 mark. Was pretty football daft in terms of kicking a ball around, went everywhere with a football. Still played uptil last year but have now hung up the boots as it was interfering with my cycling  plus I just can`t run about like I used to, head was telling the body to do stuff and the body was telling the head to f off

Easy peasy, I didn't even own a leather football till I was 13, I practiced with a tennis ball. My school team (1970's) coach played me as a left winger and I went from being right footed to two footed by the time I was 11. I coach juniors now and it's not often you see a two footed player today, most are hopelessly one footed and it is extremely irritating. :cursing:

I often use a tennis ball to show/explain something and that always put them firmly in their place. ^_^ You can tell, by 8, which kids have the balance and touch to manipulate a football, it can be quite sad to see kids who want to be "Riquelme" when you know that are only going to be clog footed oafs................full backs.

Never bothered with keepy uppy. I used to smash the ball in to the garage door pretending I was Peter Lorimer (if anyone remembers him!)

I don't remember the exact numbers of my records but often between 90 & around 120, occasionally just stopping at 100+ through boredom.

80, 90, 100+ proves very little imho, maybe that you can do 1 thing very well but never did it make a complete footballer.

I had a 2 school mates who both were offered contracts, one by several clubs inc BWFC, the other just by BWFC.

The one who was offered several contracts never bothered much with keepy uppy, he refused all contracts & went to Uni instead (BWFC were in the then old div 2 with div 1 top) for those younger members.

The other signed on youth/apprentice terms & I never saw him play professionally for anyone.

When I see some Pro's now I often wonder what could have been (comparing myself against them at similar ages) some are mediocre at best even in the Prem.

The lad who turned down all the contracts was holding out for a 1st Div team. He could have been a star he was that good, made me feel just above average.

The one thing I never mastered (apart from modesty) was catching the ball behind my neck, which still irks me to this day.

I moved on to playing Rugby League when I wasn't miraculously spotted by scouts from Benfica.
