To do yesterday's episode on the TV, he said, they would have had to send a film crew to France where the carving was found and one to the Arctic to film reindeers swimming and dress someone up as an ice age caveman. Nor really viable for just one of 100 15-minute episodes. "And we are talking about ideas that arise from the objects, the questions they ask. I think you can do that better on the radio." It took four years to prepare apparently.
