Tender doesn't have a corridor.
Yes it does (or it did), you can even see it connected to the front coach in the picture.
That is how they did the non - stop runs between London and Edinburgh, crews would take over/be relieved at certain points without stopping (with the unfortunate result being that they all had to travel with the train).
Quite a few of the LNER locos had them and was a very narrow passage down one side of the tender - You didn't want to be fat to go through it though. It compromised water capapacity, yes, but they had things like water troughs to replenish the water on the move too. I also presume they could have brought more coal through from the train if needed, but I imagine it had enough capacity as it was.
