Hung: Past tense
If "hanged" was some exotic future tense, the we would say "The painting is going to be hanged on the wall" We don't say that.
The phrase "to be hanged" is passive infinitive, formed by "to be" + past participle of the verb.
The past tense and past participle of hang is hung except when the thing being <hanged/hung> is a person. then it's hanged. It's just one of the dozens of irregular verbs in English.
