Ride With GPS is letting me down for some reason, I usually make a txc file with course points in that and sync with my garmin 305 in Training Centre. For some reason however, the course points aren't coming through. I can make them manually in TC but its base map is terrible. What other free mapping software lets you create course points?

Garmin's own software. I think this is pretty new as I don't remember it being there a few months ago. Seems pretty good too.

I have a problem loading GPX files on my 705. I transfer them across okay after mapping them in ridewithgps but when I try to load them on the 705, it switches off half way through calculating the route. I asked Garmin and they told me to use Basecamp. Problem is maps on Basecamp are too basic to be of any use and I can't figure how to use the City Navigator map I have on an SD card.

Potentially you are creating a route with too many waypoints? Max is 100.

Possibly. That has been suggested, and I've tried to delete waypoints to take it below the maximum the 705 can quote with, but doesn't seem to make any difference. That might be because ridewithgps doesn't actually delete the waypoints, just 'hides' them in some way??

Try doing a route with bikeroutetoaster.

Then try one with Garmin which saves them as a tcx. You need to access tcx files through the training menu.

TCX always works fine. I think I'll plot an identical route on both rwgps and bikeroutetoaster and see if I can load them. Thanks.
