It did sound interesting and you have very quickly convinced me.

Will give them a call to check out their willingness to accommodate my motley collection of panniers and drybags while i mooch around.

They wouldn't let them in the museum or let you check them into left luggage/the cloakroom?

Oh they were more than welcome in the museum. There is quite a bit for kids to do. I wanted to leave them somewhere so I could enjoy it at my own pace.

Semi-related, has anyone ever cycled around the ring road? I drove it but didn't have my bike there. It struck me as either really fun for lap training or really terrifying on a bike, I couldn't decide which.

Not me and loaded up as I will be I think I'll be avoiding that.

On the museum, it did look interesting from my initial research and great that it's free, as all public museums should be.

Why isn't it better known?
