Looked at the Transport Museums website, it state that it's the largest, I'd have thought that was the one at Gaydon??
(not been there for about 15 years or so)

You poor guy, well at least you survived.
Yes, same as I survived a day in Merther Tydfil, by not speaking, & revealing that I was English

Plus, Thrust 2?? (the earlier car, that Richard Noble himself drove), as I'm sure it's mentioned in Nobles autobiography - a fantastic book!!!
I've got the book too. A fascinating book on how to manage a team of very capable engineers. Also interesting to read that Thrust 2 and Thrust SSC were both all-or-nothing projects, i.e. if they didn't get the world record, then they wouldn't be able to do the post-record tours, and they would be bankrupt.

Apparently the bike used by the remarkable Eileen Sheridan for her record-breaking LEJOG (described in last night's Raleigh doc on BBC4) is in the museum as well, though I think some other source says it is just one of her bikes.

Info here:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eileen_Sheridan_(cyclist)

which reveals that the bike is not actually a Hercules. So nowt new about cycling porkies. I must admit that I suspected as much watching the doc as I thought I detected a certain twinkle in her eye.

I'm lucky enough to have done some engineering work (front suspension, what little there is of it! and some parts of the fuselage) on Bloodhound, Thrust SSC successor . if you're unsure what it is all is revealed here - http://www.bloodhoundssc.com/

The old building is at the top of Trinity Street where it joins broadgate, we are seeing the side of it, park of it is now a Wetherspoons, the Flying Standard. The ruins are whats left of the original Cathedral, cathedral of St. Mary's, it was excavated by the Channel 4 program Time Team and what they found has been left on display.

Bingo - @Blue Hills told me that he likes to check out Wetherspoons when he visits new places!

I am back from my trip to the museum.

My first piece of advice is not to accept the offer of a lift there on the day when the Coventry Half Marathon is being run ...

Having eventually escaped traffic gridlock, I arrived at the museum with my brother-in-law. I was immediately intercepted by a woman who asked how I had heard about the museum, etc. And ... would I like to make a £5 donation towards the running costs of the museum? That sounded reasonable, so I did, and was given a nice glossy booklet in return.

I found the museum interesting and agree that it is well worth a visit. I took quite a few photos and will post some of them once I have time to transfer them to my laptop and go through them.

Thanks for that colin - i can see a few cchatters making a pilgrimage there and maybe revising their ideas of coventry. No, i'd never heard of edie atkins either though it's not really my patch. 53 was clearly one hell of a year for her. Rather curiously written wiki page appears to say that the husband married her as she was faster than him. Could lead to some interesting cc rides - congratulations, you're faster than me and your prize is .....

Very sad death.

Edie Atkins was a lovely lady, She was a regular on the Coventry Road Club rides when I first joined the club. A small slight figure she was in her seventies when I first met her. I remember a 50 in four we did and taking it in turns pushing her up the steeper climbs. She was killed crossing the A45 at Ryton, a dangerous cross roads where we used to cross from Ryton heading for Woolston, there's a roundabout there now but it's no safer.
