Annoyingly when I tried to fit my bike in my boyfriends car he pushed back on his chair and it seems this little knob took all the force.

Its cracked so is not screwing in properly, and the little metal pin has gone into the bike as wasn't being held in place properly.

Bought the bike from halfords and as they often don't know what they are doing I was hoping to claim innocence and maybe they would repair for free.

Is it an expensive/complicated repair otherwise? Sorry for any wrong terms used, I'm not very knowledgeable, basically the knob on the bottom of front forks has cracked.

Rebound adjusters are usually just an Allen key with an anodized end. Can you get hold of the broken part and remove it from the fork leg? If so, leave it in place. It'll stop the void filling with grit and dirt, but if you ever need to adjust the rebound you can pull it out and use an Allen key to adjust it. If you can't get hold of it to pull it out, don't fret. It will only cause bother if you want to adjus the rebound damping.
