Crane SPD Shoes

Hi,

I've just bought a pair of Crane cycle shoes to try, it says they can be converted to use SPD cleats, any ideas on how this is done..??

As long as I breathe, I attack.
Undo the 2 bolts on the bottom,of the shoe and it should allow part of the sole to come off revealing holes for 2 bolt mtb cleats ,In the past they have always included the metal plate which the screws go into that hold the cleats in place inside the shoe between the sole and the insole.
Please note that the screws that come with the shoes are made of soft metal and you will round the heads off if you try to use them to hold cleats in so use the good ones that should come with your cleats.

Well, my Crane (ALDI) shoes certainly can't! They have the two-hole SPD fitting and an aggressive tread pattern with room for the SPD cleat in a recess in the tread.

Yes, discovered the Crane (Aldi) ones are for SPD only not the "Look Cleats" I have, it appears the Look ones are quite old...!!

Any recommendations for where to get some new "Look cleats" as mine are well worn..??

Ah, I've just caught up ... The current shoes are Crane SPD type, but the pedals are Looks, so it is a case of either replacing the pedals or the shoes!

How about keeping the shoes, and replacing the pedals?

SPD MTB-type shoes are better for walking in than Look shoes because the cleats are recessed. If you don't do much walking about, then that isn't important, but if you do any significant amount of walking in Looks, then you will hate them! (You'll slip over and the cleats wear out quickly.)

I agree, slip and slide everywhere...!! Any recommendations on where to go for pedals / cleats to suit Crane (SPD) shoes..??

Look Delta cleats (the old type) - here.

Look 'Keo'-type cleats (the new type) - here.

They do look the same but the Crane (Aldi) shoes I've bought are only two hole design not three hole design suitable for the "Look cleats" I have.

Thank you for all your advice
No problem!

Oh, here's some more advice which I learned the hard way ... The SPD pedals have release tension adjustments. The pedals tend to come with the tensions set to maximum and if you ride with them like that, you might not be able to get unclipped! I suggest that you set them to minimum before using them. You can always tighten them up a bit later, but I never unclip accidentally so I left mine set to minimum.

NB Make sure that you do both sides of both pedals - I missed one side on one of my new pedals and got my foot stuck, which almost caused me to crash on a steep climb when I decided to get off and walk!
