Crank / BB - Great Big Gap!

I'm no expert but this doesn't look quite right to me. It's on my old Specialized Rockhopper:

Has it always been like that, or have you had something changed / replaced lately?

Not sure. I've only had it a couple of years and have hardly used it - it was given to me by a friend. When I got it I sent it to my local bike shop for a service and I would guess it's done about 10 miles since. I can only assume it was like that when I got it.

It just looked a bit weird to me but I'm fairly clueless so perhaps it's supposed to look like that.

If nothing else I've learned that mine needs a good clean!

It looks fine. if you are not happy try to tighten the crank bolt a little more.
If you can not tighten it then it is tight enough.
