Because from September I will either have a short walk to work (boring!) or a 12 mile each way commute that will take me up Cheddar Gorge in the mornings and up the Old Bristol Road in the evenings, depending on where we move to.
Oh bugger!

I'd go for the one that takes you down the Old Bristol Road in the mornings and down Cheddar Gorge in the evenings

Cheddar Gorge is tough - I went there a few years back. Not envying you for the climb if you end up there but at least the scenery is nice

Be careful with all that climbing, look what happened to Mr Hincapie xx(

Cheddar Gorge isn't actually too bad, other than a couple of corners where it's really steep. Old Bristol Road though... that's just nasty!

What the hell is that!?
George Hincapie's vericose veins, nice innit?
Where are you moving to, and where do you work? I live in Cheddar and work in Wells, so if I get up very early I go up the Gorge and down Old Bristol Road. If I get up reasonably early I go out via Wedmore, Panborough and Wookey, or if like today, I get up really late and have no time at all, I come along the A371, that can be hairy!
Moving to? Dunno yet! I will be working in Wells and the main reason why we are thinking of living in Cheddar is to avoid bumping into the kids I'll be teaching (The Blue School). 5 days a week of the little darlings is fine, but 7, no thanks!!! However, Wells has the benefit of coach station (for husband when he needs a hardcore bike ride rest day as he is working in Bristol).
If we do Cheddar your first route is the one I had thought would be the best, but may try Wedmore-Wookey one - you could be my tour guide!!!
How do you like living in Cheddar?

VOMIT.

I puked the first time I was shown this, and it still has the same effect on me! Thanks Smokeysmoo (is it Smokey smoo or Smokeys moo?!, or Smoke monkey poo?).
As a reward for this I will send you the first image of my 'brain' leg when it forms!
Blugh...
BTW - visited Mellow Johnny's a few years back. Got some nice flip-flops!

No, 'tis lovely on my light road bike, on my commuter with full panniers...eek.
I think I must work hard at not taking work home with else I will never make it home! Hmmm...maybe husband has an ulterior motive....
