It's for motorcyclists, but I'm wondering if some of the techniques can be applied to cyclists as well.

One is called an 'Anti-SMIDSY manouvre', where if you see a car waiting to pull out, and think they might not see you, you check for overtaking cars first, then weave side to side on the road so that you are more visible.

They also talk about checking for background movement behind the car, but I really didn't understand what they were on about, but apparently it's to help identify possible SMIDSY candidates.

(Oops I'm up too late!)

The way I understand it is that if you can’t see movement behind the vehicle you will remain on the same bearing (steady bearing) thus not be very visible to the driver.

If you see relative movement between the car and the background that means you relative position (bearing) is moving thus you are more visible to the driver.

If you can’t see that relative movement then you create it by weaving
