crashed my hybrid for first time today cos of black ice, was hoping to do nice 20 miles to start new year off, i managed 10 then got lift home lol few things i needa buy now, new front light fixing, small little bracket thing for me back mudguard, get my gears serviced as rear gear sprocket took little hit, graze on me front break lever etc... my main surprise was my end bars, everyone said the cheap ebay hylix stuff would just snap straight away, i bought these before joining forums etc and knowing what brands what... anyway the right hand side end bar took all the force into it and only come out with a few scratches, 30 odd quid well spend imo. my ankle got chunk skin missing along with my elbow but my thigh stings like mad lol few pics for my first 2012 crash oh and my phone took a beating, can only see half me screen and I've marked my seat leather on my pro turnix carbon which wasnt cheap  time to do some servicing i suppose!

At least you're o.k, and the damage appears mainly cosmetic....besides, a few scratches give the bike a bit of character. Your phone will probably cost the most to fix.

You must live 'up North'? I took the kids out today, 7 degrees, and clear skies.....not sign of ice.

+1. At least your pride took the worst of it, everything else can be fixed/fettled or replaced. Falling off is one of life's inevitabilities I'm afraid.
There are loads of videos, (some better than others mind), on You Tube that'll help you sort your gears out yourself, then you can have that nice warm inner feeling rather than yet another hole in your wallet

I'd planned to venture out this morning, but after witnessing a few cars struggle to take the corner, I opted not to risk taking the bike out, think you've just proved I made the right choice
Battle scars mate ;) you'll recover
Your bar ends you can cover with an old inner tube cut to length to hide them scratches .. If you want me to check over your bike rather than splash cash out, then give me a shout :thanks:

What type of bracket do you need ... I have a few spares
Thanks, i have sorted bracket, do you do many long routes, always cycled alone since none my mates are into it lol

Ooh commiserations on the crash. Your bike looks very good btw, despite the scratches. Just battle scars really.
thanks, just in early stages atm, my carbon pedals are my newest addition, got my pannier to get then most likely a carbon crank set up.

Ouch , nice road rash !

Ventured out this morning and it was listing 0 degrees , having to scrape the car to take a load of stuff to the tip.I went for a quick spin after dinner and even though it had warmed up a bit the windchill was bitter character building .
I like boardmans as well, i have a road comp that i managed to dent in a pothole crash a few weeks after i bought it ...

after crash ..

There's something to be said about having a cheap and cheerful winter bike (as i have).
Apart from being cheap to fix, they're usually heavier/more sluggish and better for training.

My average speed on my coyote was 2mph slower than my trek (over a 30 miler).
Through this winter i've gradually matched the treks speed. Can't wait to get the trek out in april.

+1 using my commuter as the winter ride, a carrera virtuoso.

Like the avatar , i set one of those yesterday doing 40 apparently, it was at the bottom of a hill though ....
