Crazy idea? Put a tyre inside another tyre for extra puncture protection

re: tyre liners
Would you recommend any?

I can't recall the brand/model, they were red... but i pulled a couple of thorns out which had gone through the tyre and squished on the liner... whereas my current Shwalbe Big Apples, which supposedly have a thick kevlar lining, a thorn recently went straight through, so I'm not overly impressed with their puncture protection.

...and does he wear a pair of knicks inside another pair, for extra bum protection?

 that doesn't work so well. it all gets a bit tight down there and when i my friend tried this, he was constantly shifting on the saddle due to the extra padding. i won't he says, he won't bother with this idea in the future.

This is of course an old trick. Tandemists used to use it a lot in the days when tyres were less puncture resistant. I'd have thought it was pretty much redundant nowadays; even a heavyweight Ultra-marathon is going to be lighter and as puncture-resistant.

Or "upcycle" a section of innertube and tie a knot in one end. Could be a problem if you only have a road bike though. Or not...I'm not here to judge.

I think I read on here once that Robert Millar would use a 20 mm tubular tyre as an inner tube during the winter.

Tyres are way better now though, probably unnecessary.

Tried it, and over time the edges rubbed on the tube and caused a hole. Schwalbe Durano Plus. Rear lasted about 5500 miles commuting in London without incident, front looks like it will do double that.
