Kid reminds me of kamikaze rabbits you get in lanes round here. They dart out, hug the opposite verge keeping pace whilst you edge the brakes, then suddenly swing across between your wheels.

Only thing you can do is cover the brakes and prepare for the worst.

Hopefully he find out about it, show it to all his mates and his parents will find out.

As I posted on Youtube, find his address and go and see his parents. Chances are you will be able to claim against their household insurance.

I thought i did a pretty decent job of fixing the front wheel last night, its amazing what power had to be applied to get it go back to a decent shape. Wish i had checked the bike out more carefully last night though, cycling in this morning the pedals froze as the chain got caught in the front derailleur. So now i have a snapped chain, walked partly to work and have a repair on my hands during dinner. Need a new chain, chain breaker and need to mend a bent derailleur, what joy.

I knew somebody who did exactly the same thing as that kid. It was the last thing he ever did, because he crossed into the path of a motorbike.

If you are saying that this has happened to this kid before and I was his parents, the first thing I would do is to take the bike off him and bury it. At the side of the road I would of probably of given him some advice to get rid of it, because the way he was riding at some point in the near future he is going to end up dead.

If I was his parent I'd find out about some bicycle training courses and make sure he could carry on riding, but riding safely in the future.

Yep, I'd of got his details when it happened so he could pay...or at least as a kid he could put forward some money towards it, rather than getting off scott free. As mr_cellophane said, a lot of home insurance policies seem to have some type of personal liability cover, so probably wouldn't even cost the kid/his parents anything.

There is that, however according to the OP this is not the first time that this has happened to this kid. If he is not learning his lessons from the school of hard knocks then what chance would a cycle instructor have? The next time he decides to do it, it might be his last.

I've had a similar thing almost happen at college - somone crossed infront of me, wearing headphones and a hoodie... had I been a 4-wheel-chav-mobile, they'd have been toast...

Luckily you can stop pretty quick at 8mph...
