Creaking Bike

Hi guys,
Whenever I am cycling uphill and I'm out of the saddle (putting more pressure on the front wheel?) the front of my bike starts creaking. Any ideas what the problem could be?

Front of the bike?
Headset, wheel, cockpit.
Any could be the cause.
You need to be more specific.
Check and thighten the front wheel QR lever. Check the spokes. Try a different wheel to see if the creak disappears.
The headset may need cleaning and greasing. Hold on the front brake and push pull the bike. Any movement?

Could also be the bars - tighten the stem up.

Everything seems tight enough and there is no movement or noise when I hold the break on and push/pull the bike.

Could be you . Hopefully not, though, 34 seems a tad young to be creaking. Good luck with finding the source: bicycle creaks can be hard to find.

Should I just oil everything and hope for the best?

With mine it's usually the headset (as others have suggested), or the stem clamp around the handlebars. It has titanium bolts and they seem to creak even if they're tight and I give it "full beans" out of the saddle.

Depending on your wheels check where the spokes cross over each other, any flex in the wheel from extra power whilst standing could cause them to move/ rub.

I recently had a creaking noise that seemed to occur every time I was pushing the left hand pedal downwards, I put a bit of lube into the gap between the pedal and the frame (I think its called the bottom bracket at that part of the frame) and it now seems ok, made a dirty mess but easily cleaned with a bit of cleaning stuff and a paint brush.

As always take out the stem/bar clamp bolts, put a dab of grease on the threads and do them back up to the correct torque. Often the most common source of front end standing out of the saddle uphill type creaks

How do you know what the "correct torque" is rusty bearing?

Oh and by the way I did 55 miles on wednesday and didn't hear a thing?

A torque wrench, experience and sometimes it's written somewhere on the stem. Ally, usually @6/7 Newton/mts.

Tighten the cranks up, they are a common cause of creaks, difficult to tell where the noise is coming from

My Sidi shoes creak in the circumstances that you describe - not a matter of interest to the manufacturer or his distributor apparently - but Spesh shoes are quiet.
