I'm currently reading Dawkin's books the greats show on earth and enjoying it (once I get over his smugness)

But in order to be balance can anyone recommend an equivalent Creationism book so that I can try and understand their point of view as well.

I think there's a good one called the Bible (or something like that)...Can't remember the author of the top of my head.

(Don't have any serious suggestions I'm afraid - you could I suppose try reading something by Dembski for the ID view)

I've only ever seen this one, which is truly hilarious.

What a laugh

I've only read The God Delusion so far - highly recommended. There was a book next to it in the shop called The Dawkins Delusion, was only a few pages long!

Doesn't it boil down to "God done it" ??

I feel the need to point out that due to the biology bias in the media that reading The Greatest Show on Earth is only one aspect of the "opposite" of creationism. Another equally large part is a cosmology book and these are written by an array of people that I've never heard a complaint about such as Guths, Weinbergs, Singhs even Hawkings.

There is another viewpoint forwarded by Z. Sitchin.

He does not dismiss either the Bible or evolution, and agrees with both the Bible and evolution.

It's a good read.

He contends that early man was 'enhanced' by visiting beings.

A ripping yarn...

That's a fair point. I guess though that biology is, in general, more readily understood by the man on the street so is perhaps easier to communicate.

Didn't Hawking create a bit of a brouhaha at one point with his "know the mind of God" statement?

Their point of view is that Godditit, and that it is OK to lie for Jesus by ignoring scientific facts that do not fit the bronze-age myth recorded in Genesis.

Seriously.

Is this what you meant when you referred to eminent geneticists holding such view?

I understand the basic arguments but would like to see them in more detail.

I wouldn't mind a good reading list for both sides of the argument. Whilst I have no belief in religion of any kind - the history of it and the arguments fascinate me.
