I just liked the shadow of the stamens on the petals in the evening light... looks a bit like they're under a theatrical spotlight.

I have a distinct feeling that I've overdone this one but the people would be lost if I hadn't.
Thoughts?

Personally, I like it.

It's interesting, but is just veering towards looking like AI or something. I'd have probably waited until the people had disappeared, but then thought that the expanse of floor needed something to break it up.

You've reminded me. Below is the final version that I settled on. I specifically included the people for scale.
Note that I checked the verticals using a grid so anything looking "off" is either the building or an optical illusion.

Couldn't waste the clear skies and warm, windless night on Sunday. Unfortunately the moon was still up and about 66% which washed out the stars a fair bit plus it is never true night at this time of year but I'm pleased with the result and I think my processing is getting better which allowed me to get far more detail from the Milky Way than I expected. The moon also did a great job of lighting up the castle for me (Whitecastle in Monmouthshire). This one is 8 images taken at ISO 3200, f2.8 and 15" exposure stacked to reduce noise (so effectively a 2 minute exposure for the sky). I've also got ten 2 minute tracked images taken at ISO 800 and f4.0 that I'm going to stack which should give much more detail but I also have to then blend it with a separate foreground so more work and I want to take my time getting it right.
