Hi
I was thinking of buying one of these

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/...&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=418448347&pf_rd_i=468294

I have found a couple of stories about these catching fire when charging, but I can't get definitive answers on the following;

It's listed as Li-ion, rather than Lipo (which I think are used in the radio controlled world). Li-ion is safer, but not completely safe, right?
Can explosion or fire happen when in use or storage, or is it just a danger while charging?
Some people recommend using a Lipo charging bag. I can't find any for sale in the UK which look to be tested (or at least have a you tube video showing that they work).

Any thoughts?

As long as I breathe, I attack.
Never had a problem personally.
If i remember rightly a lot of the problems were down to incoorect storage and charging regimes but of course like anything you can get a lemon.
But if you want a lipo storage sack google is your friend , i found loads .

You need to remember that the heat produced by these lights is high, certainly on high mode, you need the air cooling that you provide from cycling along. If you are going to test the battery life on full whilst static then you need a fan to cool it down. The reviews are very mixed to say the least, I would say that the battery is the weak link.

The problem, I think, is that some are good and some just give you a false sense of security, as they are pointless. I'll ask on an RC forum to see if anyone has any recommendations. Thanks

I just picked one up on ebay, had a somewhat dubious adapter for the charger (that was a little bit of a loose connector to put it mildly) but I'm using a normal shaver type adapter we had kicking around and it seems alright. After growing up with those frightening 70's public information films I rarely leave anything charging overnight or if I'm out for any length of time.

Never had an issue with my Packd. Best just charge where they can't cause anything else to catch on fire, so charge on a work top or in a tin box.

Fires happen when the batteries are damaged or the protection circuit is damaged (e.g by water).

Worse that usually happens is a cell or two go faulty which stops the pack working. I pulled one pack to bits because of this and upon plugging into my Xtar charger, two cells were dead. Binned them and use the two other cells in a couple of Trustfire 502b torches.

Just use common sense. These fail more spectacularly than standard batteries as they pack a much bigger a page and wattage capacity.
