Great opening round of fixtures. As a Hampshire fan I was more than happy for the Yorkies to be back  Here's hoping we can do a number on Surrey across at the Oval this week!

We rather fluffed our lines in the 1st 2 sessions, and losing 1st chnage seamer after 4 overs also didn't help. Encouraged that we made a game of it after that, esp as Hants have been in top 3 for past 3 seasons.

I had a uneasy feeling when Wusster won the toss and chose to bowl at Headingley, thinking the pitch might be too spicy, but so far so good with Yorks 103-1 at lunch, much better than last weeks efforts.

Absolutely battered Wuss by 500 runs inside 3 days. They were poor, and crumbled like a good wensleydale, twice , but then last week they survived a 200 over rearguard action at Taunton? Anyway good to get a win on the board, onto Durham on Friday, its games thick and fast in this first "block"

I'm enjoying a day out at the Riverside with my fiancée and daughter watching Durham Ladies play Nottingham Blaze in the Metro Bank One Day trophy. Durham were going really well before collapsing to 200.

Conditions have clouded over so it should be defendable, but they were looking good for 250 plus at one point.

This is my daughter's first experience of cricket, a bit different to the village green and long wave i started out on. She's having a good time so I'm hoping she'll continue being interested because her mum is not a fan of sport.

Things got a little closer towards the end but Blaze knocked off the runs with 5 wickets and 12 overs to spare.

I'm glad I noticed this pleasing part of symmetry on the scoreboard:

No busses to wonder about though!

Waster! Kids today (that's actually seriously impressive).

Yes it is. I remember coaching an U11 district team. We had done drills for batting and bowling to help select a team when one of the lads came to me and said he bowled leg spin. I was sceptical so asked him to bowl at a set of stumps. the first four balls pitched outside leg and hid middle and off, I was gobsmacked. He then said he could also do a ‘different one’. I asked him to show me, the ball pitched outside off and hit leg, he’d mastered a googly! He went on to county trials and played semi Pro in Australia. But he never quite made the top level, it’s amazing how steep the pyramid of ability is.
