KKR put a decent score on the board but their bowlers are taking a pasting

First home game for KKR and the daughter today against her ‘home’ team of Sunrisers Hyderabad. Bigger ground for this one too with 68000 capacity whereas Mumbai was only 33000 but as I like to tell her, it’s still less than the Pricipality where I’ve performed 😂. After watching on Sunday the wife has decided she likes T20 cricket and is looking forward to watching!

KKR got taken apart in the powerplay, going for 14 an over with Head and Abhishek but responded well. Chasing 227 for the win so still challenging but hopefully will make for an interesting chase.

They’re making hard work of the chase despite taking 25 off the first over. Allen hit 28 off 7 balls. Some comedy fielding in the 9th over helped a bit but they need to start hitting more boundaries

Bad start again for KKR today. Bartlett’s first over for Punjab was one of the best I’ve seen in T20 cricket and showed you can still have success bowling with traditional line and length as a seamer in this form. Took two wickets caught behind, conceded a boundary to an edge that would have gone straight to the hands of the slip / short third man the previous ball before he was moved and had the KKR batsmen play and miss most of the others. Fortunately for KKR the rain has come and they’ll probably be hoping it stays!

Superb finish to the KKR match today against Lucknow Super Giants. It looked like they were going to get their first win when Badoni got out for 54 leaving LSG on 125/6 off 14.4 overs chasing 182. Mukul Choudhary had a slow start and LSG then lost Shami for 1 leaving them with 54 required off the last 4 overs with 3 wickets.

The required run rate continued to grow, at times reaching around 3 a ball but then Choudhary went mental and started hitting sixes. There was some poor bowling especially by Cameron green in the 19th over plus some poor captaincy and LSG needed 14 off the last over. They had Choudhary off strike but bizarrely put their fielders on the edge of the circle giving an easy single to put him back on, he hit the second for 6 as the bowlers continued bowling at the stumps but he then switched at last what seemed the obvious tactic of bowling full and wide getting two dots but on the fourth ball of the over Choudhary hit one of the most incredible sixes I’ve seen, completely off balance and at full stretch he somehow sent in over the cover boundary to tie the scores and they then managed a scrambled bye of the last ball to win. Well worth watching the highlights to see some of the shots at the end.

It’s going to be a long and hard season for Gloucestershire, beaten by an innings in the first match and heading for another innings defeat in the second.

Tilak Varma for Mumbai - first 22 deliveries scored 19 runs. They then had break in play, he hit the first ball after the break for 6 and went on to score 101 in 45 deliveries so 82 runs from 23!

Superb knock from Finn Allen today. Scored exactly 100 with a 6 off the last ball (47 balls in total) . Him and Cam Green were calculating the scoring as the total needed for the win was less than Allen needed for his ton.

KKR on a roll lately. After losing 5 of their first 6 (the other getting rained off) they have now won 4 on the bounce and an outside chance of getting in the top 4 play-off spots. Today’s win was by 8 wickets (the two they lost were flukes) with 34 balls left. The bowlers did a great job to restrict Delhi to 142-8 having been 75-1 after 7 overs. They put on a spell of 38 balls with no boundaries.

One of the best catches I’ve ever seen yesterday from Manish Pandey to take Tim David’s wicket in the RCB v KKR match yesterday. There ground was in stunned silence at first and the reactions from David, Kohli and the KKR team are priceless. Pandey looks like he takes them every day.

I think Rew is in as spare batter, perm any 3 from 5 seamers. Fisher was in / flown out to ashes squad, but experience / form of Robinson might be preferred? Bashir or Ahmed? Ahmed will bat at 8 if chosen. In an absolute wildcard he could open!!!
