What a game. Fair play to India bowling so well at the death.

Disappointing outcome for England but a fair result for the series. It’s also not long since any chase above 250 would have been thought unlikely. The only other time I’ve seen anyone come out to bat one handed was Malcolm Marshall who if I remember correctly did pretty well.

Its been a great series with some epic matches and real momentum swings. When Brook and Root got out yesterday in reasonably quick succession that pendulum really swung back to India.

I'm just 5 or so miles from the ground and I've looked at a couple of weather forecasts. Rain isn't forecast until around 2pm but light might deteriorate before then. If there isn't a 'not bright enough for pace bowling' judgement from the umpires then it should be over before lunch. I'm fairly confident that there will be enough time for a result.

Yesterday I was watching them on the TV pull the covers on in torrential rain, and less than 10 miles away, went out for a run in the sunshine. Saw no rain at all, all day.

What a finale! What a game! What a series! What a catch, what a run out, what an innings! And after 25 days of blood sweat tears broken bones and one armed batting it all ends up in a draw. Magic!

Best non-Ashes series I can recall - and I'm 113. What a fantastic advert for (at its best) the best game in the world.

Tom Rew, James Rew's younger brother played a couple of T20 blast games earleir in the season and has been playing Eng U19 cricket (he's still 17). He made his 50 over debut for Somerset last night and scored 51 in a stand of over 100 with big brother which pretty much won them the game (big brother scored 106*). Watch this space, he's apparently quite a talent...

I've seen them both play & so much more to come from them as they develop. I'm sure next season they'll be playing in the big money mickey mouse cricket competition & not the 2nd eleven 1 day Cup for Somerset.

After getting home from LEL, I listened to the last day on TMS. Wow!

Now I NEED to see some video of Woakes limping about. How many balls did he actually face?? Total drama.

If you watch the iplayer highlights of the final morning you can see the entirety of his time at the (non strikers end) crease.

There are many reasons why I'm usually umpiring for my local club, a primary one being my ability to play the game itself!
On Saturday however I was drafted into the heady heights of Division 11 East (North) to make up the bodies in our 2nd XI.
out of pity the skipper said to me in the 32nd over of 40 when the oppo already had a daunting total I should have a bowl and see how it goes.
"Right arm over Umpire". Ball 1 - off break pitched up, batter onto the back foot in front of all 3 misses with the plank, thud into the pads. "OWZAT" we all chirp and surprisingly the Umpire (one of the oppo's players) raises his finger. I'm giddy to get my first competitive wicket since playing as a 16 year old in the previous century! 2 more balls both pitched up nicely but dispatched to the boundary. Ball 4 - pushed through once more batter has a heave to Cow Corner, straight to the welcoming hands of our fielder. Oh my word, this game is so easy!! Ball 5 - pitched up again, back foot etc (see ball 1 ) finger stays down by an embarrassed looking Umpire. ROBBED!!!

I ended up 4 overs, 3-34 and robed of a fourth! Finished 1 not out in a defeat by 140 runs but a fun day was had by all 9 of us that turned up and had a go. Proper Cricket
