It is used by my Dad, and I understand was used by my Gradfather (b.1880) and Great Grandfather (b.1850).
As Great x 7 was Samuel Crompton http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samuel_Crompton
(b.1753) it's possible the expression has passed through many generations of the family.
