Just back from Menorca...........first flight for years as Mrs Dave is frightened of flying.
Guess what...........she really enjoyed it and wants another 7/10 days in September. Happy days!!!
So (as per title)..........we are thinking of what used to be Yugoslavia.
My understanding is that Croatia is "the place" but we are open to suggestions.
We enjoy.............
Visiting old historic towns.
Some walking e.g. coastal paths.
Nice beaches for sunbathing & snorkelling.

Any suggestions welcome..........thanks.

The Glue that binds us together.
Have only done the Croation islands, not many sandy beaches, but the towns are nice but small, Spent a couple of days in Split on the mainland, but 2 days was enough for me. the islands are right up my street. I found Budapest great for sightseeing but again no sandy beaches. :okay:

Off to Croatia for a couple of weeks this summer

Hvar...nice island
Split
Cavtat, a small resort just south of Dubrovnik...close enough to visit for day trips

I think we're spending a couple of days in Bosnia too but Mrs N is the itinerary-jockey

Well, write it down boy ......
I went to Croatia a few years ago, loved it. Flew to Pula then hired a car and went inland to a little village (can't remember the name, not even sure I could find it on a map again!) as I prefer the rustic experience. There's loads of good walking, just get a local map. Little English was spoken and the menu in restaurants was limited (but very well cooked and tasty). Several historic sites in the area. We visited Trieste for a day as it was reasonably close.
There are beaches round Pula, but I didn't visit, so can`t comment. I would expect English is widely spoken there.

Edit. The village was near Buzet.

Had a fantastic two weeks in Dumbovnik 33 years ago, if I remember correctly trunks and swimming costumes were not needed on many beaches.

I'm thinking of Croatia for next year's 4 couples gig that we do. So I'm intetesred too. I'd heard that it was pretty pricey. Is that so?

If you find yourself in the far south of Croatia around Dubrovnik, it's worth pushing on a little further into Montenegro to the Gulf of Kotor (Boka Kotorska), which is a spectacular fjord-like bay enclosed by steep mountains, and with more pretty little coastal towns with a strong Venetian influence. The currency in Montenegro is the euro.
A few pictures I took on a cycle tour there

Korcula. We sailed around Croatia starting off at Split, and Korcula was one of my favourite places we stopped off at.
Edit/ Nice little marina, and a lovely medieval town with plenty of shops, bars and restaurants. Plus the weather was rather fab when we were there

Porec area, went last September with Thomson. It wasn't especially warm though, especially in the evenings. Some good trips available especially to the lovely lake Bled.

We also rented a car for the day and saw a lot of the region (istria)

Beaches are rocky not sandy, expect there are fish if snorkelling

It's not yet v popular with Brits, mostly Germans and Austrians in the 'off season' (Italians in summer, daytrips possible to Venice)
