Cross tyres on 650c wheels?

I've picked up a new Carrera TDF Junior today cheaply (not from Halfords) and am looking to get cross tyres on it if possible. There's clearance for them - I just need to find some.

A couple of questions:

1. Would 26" tyres fit if they're folding ones (just!)? It's 559mm diameter vs 571mm.

2. Are there any specific 650c cross tyres?

1. It wouldn't. I did tried with 700c (622) on 27" (630) and failed miserably (bent the rim, FML, and it was just 4 mm difference).
2. I doubt it, even if you find one, it would be expensive I guess.

well, I think the clearance is then a problem.

Why don't you buy another set of wheel and interchange them to suit your need?

Thanks - it looks like 650c tyres are out. If I can't fit 26" ones the bike'll be sold and a 26" wheel cross bike bought instead. Even if it isn't in bright yellow!
