Got my new bike but its gear cables are wired differently from how I would do it. The right shifter still controls the rear derailleur but it crosses over the headtube, meanining it has to cross over the other gear cable to get to the mech. Has anybody any experience of this set up or is it as per my first thoughts and I'll need to re cable it.

My Caadx is the same, 3000 miles and no problems.

I run my MTB this way, it gives a much better cable layout in the handlebar area. I've done it like this for at least 15 years so I hope it isn't a problem!

Cheers folks, I'll run it till it snaps and change it so there's no crossover then. Instinct tells me that will be sooner than normal but if I get 3000miles out of it as per Eddy, I'll be happy enough :-)

But it just isn't right

It's like those bikes that have the front brake controlled by the left hand lever. It's just, say, peculiar!

I would change it, the guide on the bottom bracket is designed to accept the cables in a straight run.

Hows it ride ?

Actually they are not.
As people have said, a lot of bike manufactures do crossover cables.

Yes they are, compare the entry into the groove of a straight cable and a crossed cable, they will work fine but a crossed cable will rub on the guide bracket more than a non crossed one, they are only crossed to enable a better routing around the head tube.

My crossed cables bike was fitted with a cross cabled guide. The runners at slight angles.
