The A6136 crossing the A1 just south of Brompton is closed because of the A1 realignment/widening work. Please could someone (local?) confirm that the temporary bridge is for cycles as well as pedestrians or otherwise advise the best route to get from Catterick Garrison to Scorton. In anticipation, thanks.

"Demolishing Fort Bridge
Fort Bridge carries the A6136 over the A1. We
need to replace it with a new, wider bridge. We
plan to open the new bridge in spring 2017.

"From 14 November for 18 months, Fort Bridge will
be closed. Pedestrians and cyclists can use the
alternative temporary bridge located immediately
to the south of the existing structure."

Anyone able to tell me what the score is on crossing the M1 here (12 months on)? Google view has the road closed. Has the bridge now been opened?

After being given the run-around by NYCC and then Highways England (we'll get back to you within 15 days) Bank Cycles in Catterick Garrison confirmed that the foot/cycle bridge is still in place and open and was used by many on last weekend's C2C.

I'm sure you can rely on the info from Bank Cycles, but just in case, you can still cross at the south end of Catterick Village.

Coming from the garrison, you can take a minor road south east to the village of Tunstall, arriving at a sharp bend where you would turn left through the village.

Keep going until you are literally within a few metres of the A1, where you can turn right, then first left, to cross the A1 via a three-way traffic light controlled junction.

Once across you would turn left, tootle north through Catterick Village, past the racecourse, then right directly after the main grandstand - another junction on a bend - then right at the next lights which puts you on the B1263 Richmond to Scorton road.
