I HATE cryptic crossword clues, with a vengeance... mainly cos I just don't get them

You get something like "Vicar lies down in Cornwall? Crinoline!!" and the answer will be Patchouli, or some such twaddle.

Couldn't agree more. It's the combination of their rank impenetrability and the godawful smugness of those who get them...that sort of Establishment in-crowd who grew up listening to Radio 4. Up against the wall! (3)

One big clue there was the spelling of 'humor' ... showed the answer had to use it in the anagram. ;)

I enjoy cryptics but just didn't see that one!

Two things give this away...
1. The American spelling 'humor' (why spell it the US way? It must be part of the answer)
2. The word 'transformed' is your cue to re-arrange the letters of 'greek humor'.
