I love my crud mudguards, much better than SKS. However in the last couple of weeks, three of the chuffing plastic bolts have fallen off while riding. I have taken to using two cable ties on the stays where they have come off and then securing the one which came of the actual rear guard with electrical tape. Has anybody else found issues with bolts falling off, or do I just have weak fingers?

I really don't fancy paying crud £5 for a new set of bolts and if I do buy some I'm going to glue the buggers on!

Edit - Roadracer not Raceblades, SKS make them

had the same, bought the spares, now make sure they are done up tight, although have now taken them off the bike as weather improves :-)

I've had one or 2 fall off - unbelievably, I managed to find both the screw and the bolt when one fell off last week, at 7am in the morning, going down a semi dirt track.

I keep meaning to measure the diameter of the screws and see if i can locate suitable spares from a DIY shop.

A small knob of silicone sealent on the thread as you screw the plastic nut on - I find this reduces the vibration and subsequent losening of the plastic nuts its also a great way of securing plastic without the permancy of glue:thumbsup: . Also for a quick solution to see if the nut has moved after a ride/s mark a small line (or dots) on the guard and nut once tightened that way you'l easily seee if the nut has moved.

Easy way for me - if they are rubbing they have moved. Very little clearance margin.

I lost a couple of my nuts last year and replaced them with cable ties which I had in my tool kit. When it came to that bike's yearly clean and fettle they were still there doing a sterling job so on they have stayed. I just wish one of them hadn't been pink.

trouble if you do these plastic bolts up too tight you'll strip the thread - I like the design of the roadracers but the quality of the plastic parts is far too low - gave up on mine in the end. I now ride my training bike over winter and keep the racer for dry conditions, or I just get wet (not good for regualr use I know)

I have had the Mk 1s and the Mk2 and both have lost the screws etc over time.
My solution is cheap glue and it has worked the last 18 months on my racer.
Something like Yuhu glue will do the trick of cushioning and binding the thread and screw but not so strong the come the good weather you can break the seal.

I would say that the plastic is part of the design of the Cruds and is necessarily flexible and maliable in order to adjust to various bikes and the stays are designed to snap easily in order not to damage your spokes/ wheel if they come in contact through lost nut.

Sadly they do rub a bit on my tyres every now and then, due to having a very narrow 3T fork on the front. But overall I think they are a good design solution.

One other thing when I first bought them Crud would send you replacement screws etc providing you sent them a Self Addressed Envelope, now its £4.50 I think but you do get plenty of bits screw/ strips and nuts.

Completely agree.

bollox-what would you know. Only gone and done it again, at the same bloody place (rear quarter broke away as I drop my bike over a small fence). I managed to find the screw this time but not the nut. Looks like Crud have another customer wanting spares today.
