Although I suppose it could be argued that a QR is a component rather than a tool, but it's a component with its own integrated tool.

I can't get anywhere with this one. The only answer I can think of is:

I can't get anywhere with this one.
Then it's either a very good clue or a very bad one. I suspect the latter, there were probably better ways I could have worded it. Time for some hints:

If I'm holding my position, or holding my course, I could also be said to be holding my...

If I'm about to pop the question, the thing I'm holding could...

What part of a bike is designed to give some support (and for holding, I suppose, to link it to the rest of the clue)?

Do you know, I really don't know if the clue follows 'rules'. I don't think I would have got it... I even struggled with the extra clues!
I think maybe I was trying to be a bit too clever. I desperately wanted to crowbar the engagement ring bit in with the other definitions :dry:

The devious thing about the ring reference is that it tricks you - well, me actually - into thinking of stuff like chainrings, when it was only the last part of another noun. That bit was wicked.:crazy:
