I've just changed jobs, and for the first time in years I am not based in the city! I'm now near Victoria - and not really knowing that area of London - what's some of the "better" routes from the CS7 to Victoria? I commute from Merstham/Redhill, and generally join the CS7 at Tooting Broadway.

Any recommendations welcomed - even if it adds a bit of extra distance! Ended up going through Vauxhall this morning - quite comparable to getting round Elephant & Castle

You'd be best going up CS7 to Clapham Common, over to Cedars Road, follow Queenstown Road up to Chelsea Bridge, then second right after the bridge. After that, it rather depends on where precisely you want to be.

Serious commute, though. I ride in from Carshalton, and you're coming somewhat further than that, including the lumps.

including the lumps.
As I try to avoid using the A23, I generally see a fair share of those! The home leg is definitely worse!!

Thanks - I'll give that a go - going to try a few variations over the coming weeks. It'll keep me alert on the way into work, if nothing else!

If you're on the west side of victoria, then clarions route is probably the best. Otherwise i would go for staying on CS7 till stockwell, then going down south lambeth road to Vauxhall and over vauxhall bridge.

That's the route I took today - would be nice to avoid Vauxhall if I could, but I am East of Victoria (the Palace end of Buckingham Palace St - almost on Birdcage Walk). Might give Chelsea bridge a whirl - even if it means looping up & around VIctoria on Ebury St.

if not chelsea bridge, over battersea bridge into kings road, sloane sq then straight down to victoria.....or chelsea/battersea bridge down the cs8, left at end of road (end of vauxhall bridge at this point) I'd say this is more hassle but if you want to extend route.

Ah, for East Victoria, I'd still go over Chelsea Bridge, but right along embankment to Vauxhall (it's swift and wide on that bit of CS8), then left.

It's never worth putting yourself through Vauxhall Cross, and the epic idiocy within its bounds.

Actually, I sometimes go over Chelsea Bridge and along Embankment to Lambeth or Blackfriars commuting to Southwark!

+1 to the above.
CS8 from Chelsea Bridge>Blackfriars, with morning sun on your face and a prevailling tailwind, is the stuff that dreams are made of
Great strip of road!

Thanks for the advice – I gave the Clapham Common-Chelsea Bridge route a go – seemed pretty good. I even looped round Westminster & back along Birdcage Walk for a little bit of sightseeing on the way in ;)
Good start to the day

Nice - I did Clapham common, down cedar's rd, Queenstown rd, Chelsea Bridge and CS8>Blackfriars this morning as my scenic route from SW20 - Bankside

Then it got a bit moody, as I realise my suspicion was correct and you cant turn right from the top of BF ramp onto the bridge to cross the river again, so I went down past Cannon St and ultimately across London Bridge to loop back into Southwark

To cross Blackfriars Bridge southbound from the Embankment run, you need to go underneath it (not very pleasant), and take the left filter, which brings you up to a T Junction with what I think is Upper Thames St. Left filter again, and hang left as you pass the station to get into the cycle lane. Not the most fun part of the ride.
