I am moving in a few weeks and the new commute will be Wallington (ish) > South Bank (ish). Toying with various ideas but think I might just tag on a few extra miles each night and come back the nice way. Embankment, Putney, RP, Wim, Morden, Carshalton>

Nice if you get dragged up Brixton Hill behind one But I much prefer my commute to my new job which doesn't use the A23. Redhill>Coulsdon>Wallington>Tooting>Clapham>Victoria rather than Redhill>A23>London Bridge

The stretch between Wallington - Tooting is a bit dodge, from my initial recce rides, non? I am not drawn to Hackbridge & Mitcham, for some strange reason...

It can be - certainly after 7.00-7.30am. I'm usually through it by 7am, so it's not terrible. I must try and find an alternative route for when I "need" that extra 30mins in bed!!

There's always routes via Chipstead/Carshalton - although slightly hillier

Madness...?! Madness?!!! I'll tell you what madness is Mate - A23 through Brixton, Stretham, Norbury and into central Croydon. That was my commute home Today (don't ask). Makes Tooting look like Paradise

Yeah, now you definitely know why I don't go that way!

The Chipstead thing would be going way out of my way to come back on myself, although after the climb up Rectory Ln to Woodmansterne the downhill payoff into Carshalton, via Beeches is quite nice. I can intercept the downhill there by coming along the 'Oaks track' yonder from Woodcote Gn

All routes are worthy - and I think it'll be a case of going in early and taking the direct version (ish) and trying to get away before 5 and doing the Tooting/Mitcham thing on the way home. Maybe the scenic route once a week, for old time's sake.

Yes - it's definitely a lot easier to make decent progress on CS7 Vs the 23.

That's what I usually do. Birxton and Streatham is just soooo slow!

Tell me about it. Worst part was going full tilt through the lights just past colliers wood going onto merton high street and had a car pull out to go to BK... I could feel my lunch coming up after that :/

I occasionally go over the Col de St Reatham and on to the Purley Way, and regularly did so when my partner worked near Brockwell Park. But Streatham is so dull, it's stultifying. I usually go the longer but faster way via Broadway & CS7.

used to do london bridge > CS7 A23 brixton croydon purley redhill daily but now new job means i do a23 redhill purley croydon to dulwich little better but still bit hairy at points.
