I'm finally in a place where I can now buy my first road bike.... and my lbs doesn't have any stock in!! :tired:

When they finally do, its a stright choice between the Cube Pelaton Race and Giant Defy 1. Both come in at 1 penny under the c2w allowance. The Race looks a touch better specced on paper, but I'm such a newbie that I'll be replaceing the gear-set due to wear before I reach a point where I can appreciate the difference. I've seen better reviews for the Defy, but its marginal.

Any thoughts on either model? No going off on a tangent and making other suggestions  - I want to use my lbs and thats what they stock.

It might all come down to what they get in first!

I believe that Cycling+ had the Defy 1 as winner of their recent sub £1000 bike test. Sounds like a good bike. So is the Race - choose based on fit if you can, availability if you can't.

One thing I always really like about the Cube bikes is they come fitted with good wheelsets and top level tyres. Takes that upgrade out of the equation for a start.

Must be honest but I reckon the Giant looks a tad better spec than the Cube but like VamP said Cube wheels and tyres are tops and lets be fair the Cube looks a damn sight more sexy than the Defy.

Sadly they can't offer test rides on bikes at this price point...

Not having to fork out more money on upgrading is attractive - new baby due next month, so all my pocket money is going on nappies...

Fit is everything but assuming both fit well i'd go for the Cube as I consider it to be something a little different and not from the "big" companies

Cube sell more bikes in the UK than Giant do.

Edit: Erm.... I think.

I was going for the Pelaton Pro, but seem to be reading more and more about Race:unsure:

Personally I'd go for the Cube but I'm biased as I have a 2010 Cube Agree GTC Pro. You get a lot of kit for your money with Cube.

So basically an even split. Thanks. Thats what I was lookhopeing for. Essentially its much of a muchness, down to personal choice, and whichever way I go won't be a mistake.

Keep the toughts coming though - its interesting!

bike radar has a new review out for the Defy 1....check it out.......if it were me it would be the Defy....but i'm biased as i have a Defy 2 on order:smile: check out the fit on both before deciding if you can
