it was obviously much better for me

...in the set up up it was in at the time...

I am not having a go, but you made your choice based on the way the shop set the bike up. There are so many variables in bike set up, that who can tell whether you wouldn't have preferred the Trek had it been set up properly for you.

You also say that as a ''new'' rider you cannot look at geometry. I would respectfully add, that as a ''new'' rider, you are probably not equipped to evaluate how a bike rides either...

I say "new" as in not up on stuff like a lot of people here, i've had and ridden bikes since the age of 5, just not been a hobby or big interest up until a year ago.

I think i now how to ride a bike and what feels better for me than another!

Tjw, when are you planning on making your choice and buying? The reason I ask is that I’m also considering the Cube Pelaton Race when my next c2w window opens (probably April / May timeframe) and I’d be interested to know your final selection. My other choice is a Bianchi Via Nirone which seems somewhat lower in spec. I admit I don’t know anything about bike specs and so you’re perfectly justified in ignoring my next comment, but Giant never made it anywhere near my shortlist. For me a bike should be a thing of beauty and Giants just don’t do anything for me, which is why out of your two options I voted for Cube. Now Bianchis on the other hand are (in my opinion) an art-form in themselves.

I don't care what it looks like! ^_^ Its about the last thing I would consider.

You should see my mountain bike - looks bloody awful! Buts rides well, and that is all I care about.

Giant Defy. I have a 2009 Defy 3 and it's a fantastic bike and have used it all over the winter. Much bigger R and D department than Cube, irrespective of how many bikes they may or may not sell in the UK and the frame will be better than the Cube.

The Giant Defy is a very comfortable ride compared to some road bikes, this may be another consideration.

Finally, they have some stock. No Cubes, or Defy 1s, but they do have some Defy 2s. Hopefully will get a chance to go and sit on one this afternoon.

I have a Giant SCR A1 which I guess is around what became the Defy 1. Can't fault the bike at all and I've thrown everything at mine. I commute on it year round, ridden double centuries on it. I have upgraded most of the components on it over the years so it's now almost exclusively 105 stuff.

Not quite ^_^ , but I sat on one on the turbo trainer and felt very comfortable. Much more confortable than I thought I would to be honest.

So, I have got the written quote and will be submitting to c2w, and will hopefully get my hands on it within 2-4 weeks. Shouldn't be too difficult to wait - my wife is due to give birth to our first child in less than 3 weeks, so the bike isn't exactly my top priority!

Thanks for all the help.

I took out a 3 when I was looking at the 1 at the start of Jan as they had none in my size and the frame is really nice so a 1 will be very good indeed. Just as a heads up 2 - 4 weeks may be quite generous on your lbs's behalf as I was shown build dates which were showing as week 16, so end of March, beginning of April. This is from a sole Giant stockist which I was told tend to get priority deliveries but they did say the dates may change by upto a couple of weeks so you may be lucky and it comes at the start of March.

I'm sure you'll have many enjoyable miles and more so many years with the little bundle of joy when it's here

I'm actually going to take the Defy 2. Save the money for nappies. I'm a newbie so I'm not going to notice the difference until I've worn out the gear set and it needs replacing.

So I'm having the bike I sat on. The delay will come from getting the certificate from the c2w people.
