Is it me, or has the second hand market stabilised to more reasonable prices now ? Still see some over priced bikes but seeing certainly road bikes with rim brakes falling in price. Just been offered a Colnago V1-R full Dura Ace for £1k on ebay. Shame it's too big.

Disciplines / areas / bikes I’m ‘interested’ in look from the outside to be at pretty much rock bottom. And still not selling. Sure there’s people asking and advertising sales at 4/5ths of a bikes value because they’ve “only used it once”. But the reality of a bikes value on the open market is a different prospect……

And of course you have to remember ‘we’ (Fairly serious cycling enthusiasts) may not be a true reflection of the bike-buying populous as a whole.

Everything seems to have come down a bit in price, lots of cycle to work and ex covid impulse buy stuff on the market, so a mixture of too much supply and a lack of disposable income.

I mainly buy and sell Bromptons and the last two have definitely been a bit tougher to sell.

The eBike 2nd hand market still sems a bit varied still, I've seen 6-7 year old bikes still wanting half their cost back. Even if they haven't been used as much the technology in them has moved on.

That said there are some bargains about: Raleigh Motus Tour 2023 <250 miles £990 . If the description is honest thats a 1 year old bike with £6-900 off what they are being sold for new.

At at the optimistic end of the scale Raleigh Motus Step Through Unknown Year £850. It boasts of yearly servicing but its looks heavily used, and they've not even bothered cleaning it for the pictures. No later than 2018 so for a 6 year old assumed heavily used bike I think thats overpriced.

I have reduced the number of bikes I have and really struggled to sell good ones. Cheap ones, fully serviced dont even make £20, so i give them to a hospice charity nearby and they can sell them to walk in customers. Mainly short term immigrants on the veg and fruit farms I think.
The English wanted to give me £15 notes for it and drive 30 miles to deliver.

The one bike I have sold went for £300 which was less than 50% of its RRP (at the time), this was post pandemic lockdown in early 2022. Quick look online and another of the same bike is for sale at £287.50 so about the same really from 3 years ago.

It being for sale is not the same as sold. If you watch how far some bikes have dropped whilst advertised then that gives a better idea.

Bromtons are still over priced,

They are, but are definitely cheaper than a couple of years ago. You can now pick a fairly decent one for under £500, a couple of years they were £625 for the same bike. So definitely now is the time to buy one.

I'm surprised they command such a high 2nd hand price, given that some people (I guess not the people buying them 2nd hand!) cab get them on bike-to-work. Also the original price includes VAT at 20%, so certainly for a recent one it's expected to drop by 20% ?

They’re like money in the bank, I’ve bought and sold quite a few, I’ve never lost money on one.

But they’re a marmite bike, I personally love them, love the ingenuity of the design and the convenience of being able to pop it in the boot of the car.
