Yes, I wasn't really comapring it to the output of an Enigma machine, just referring back to the wording on leet used in the wiki article the link ran back to. Even as an 'in' means of communication tho, its not that exclusive to baffle a casual observer.

We aren't casual observers, though. We are on the internet all the time. When 1337 was first invented, practically no one had a home computer, and even less people had a modem. You've been looking at email addresses, URLs, emoticons, interpolations (eg using sh!t to get around the swear filter here) etc etc for years. You already speak a dialect of 1337.
