I've plumped for a CX bike as a N+1 as a winter bike/light tourer/everything else and I've narrowed it down to 2

Boardman CX comp: http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/..._992074_langId_-1_categoryId_165710#sizeguide

Looks great, disc brakes arguably better than rim brakes, but it's a little on the heavy side, alloy fork and replacement wheels could be steep with those disc hubs.

Or there's last year's Cannondale CAADX: http://www.paulscycles.co.uk/m7b0s23p5169/CANNONDALE-CAADX-SORA-2013

Not quite as pretty but it's lighter, carbon fork, 'standard' wheels, I know Cannondales are fantastic as I've already got a CAAD8 and a 58 will definately fit. The only real downside I can see is there's only one set of mounts on the rear dropouts for rack & guards, is this such an issue though? Is sharing problematic?

Anyone got any other options for about the £600 mark?

For what its worth I would go for the cannondale, I know they wear the rims but I prefer canty's over disk, cheaper to maintain and much less hassle.

Got the Boardman CX Comp, when the brake are tuned in and working well it's great. Unfortunately it doesn't last very long, so required constant attention and in the end I gave up after going through 2 sets of pads in 4 months so up-graded the rear brake to BB7s - which has been a fit and forget affair. Mind you the front Lyra brakes have been fine, and I won't be changing it unless I have to. The two are fairly similar, but the Cannondale does have CX chainset vs the compact road on the boardman, so that could be a consideration? I think given the price range, the older boardman CX team and Specialised Tri-Cross (second hand) are candidates.

Hm, thanks but that's not really a recommendation though is it? I've read a few users have had issues with the boardman brakes while the canti's on the CAADX just work. TBH I'm swaying towards the CAADX, the Boardman looks like a great bike for the money, but unless there's another option I haven't seen, I think Cannondale are going to get some more of my money.

I was thinking about an n+1 bike and always thought if I upgraded my current CX bike then I would opt for one with disk brakes.

But after checking stuff I feel a little nervous going for disk brakes right now because I'm not sire there are a bunch of disk compatible wheels out there.

So instead of getting an n+1 now, I'm holding off for a few years. If I really needed one I would either go rim brakes or get an MTB. I have a focus mares BTW.

Go with discs. There's plenty of wheel choice for wide or narrow tyres. You can get a nice pair built for way less than £200.

For light touring and winter use you'll be glad you had discs. Much better stopping power loaded and in poor weather. Rims will not wear out either and you won't get all of the black crap on your wheels when wet.

Can recommend Giant TCX  my husband has a Cube Cross Race Disc and really likes it too.
