I am looking at the boardman cx comp to replace my carrera zelos road bike, what is your opinions on cx bikes and would it be suitable to ride the coast to coast as i am riding it for charity in july or would a road bike be better.

If you're staying in the tarmac, a road bike. However, a CX bike will still do an admirable job, especially on road rubber, and will make a versatile all rounder when you've finished.

I am about to put less knobbly tyres on my CX, ready for summer riding on our disused railway line nearby (turned into a cycle path/foot path/bridleway. I love my roadie but I also love my CX bike as it's such a good all rounder. I commute on it, whizz to the shops on it or just go out for a play on it.

With the right tyres on a CX, there is not reason that you shouldn't ride a coast to coast on it.

The Boardman CX should do the job with a change of tyres it has a more road friendly chainset 50/34 than most CX bikes

Just bought a board an cd team, swapped the tyres to smoother 32s. The main benefit is the comfort over my road bike, smoother and less vibrations through the arms etc. also feels more robust

That's a nice bit of mud clearance for a CX.

Ha ha, yes they've been tightened up now, they were fine for the knobbly tyres and shows the difference with the new ones, very happy with the tyres btw

The Boardman CX will handle almost anything you throw at it, it's not lacking on the road and does maintain a decent pace, or up any bridleways, just switch out the tyres to something like Schwable Marathon plus 32C and you'll have the best of both worlds.

I did the C2C a couple of years back on mine without a single problem, although I did have to stop a couple of times for the others to catch up

I have a genesis croix de fer and a road bike. I could happily give up my road bike tomorrow and just have the cdf. It's that good. Had a Giant TCX 1 and didn't get on with it at all, but the genesis has been fab!
