John - have you visited the Welcome mat? I must confess I have been remiss this week in not visiting it and welcoming newbies. Your arrival may have thus passed me by.

So you don't get the wrong impression about cyclists I shall say

.

So tell us the extent of your cycling - past, present and anticipated and any bikes you, Mrs John Masters or family Masters possess.

A discussion I had with a mate some time ago might, just might throw some light upon Mr Master's admittedly odd view of cyclists.

My mate asked me why cyclists always cycled in the middle of the road. The "always" turned out to be a kind on poetic license. He was genuinely amazed when I explained that we cycle in the middle of the lane when we don't want a motorists to overtake for safety reasons. It had literally never dawned on him!

The swerving friend Masters alludes to could be a similar ignorance or misconception. The fact that he says he has been hit by cars several times may also point to his lack of road cycling skills.

Mr Masters, please obtain and read "Cyclecraft" as well as the "Highway Code", it may be of significant benefit to you and cyclists.

Why is it when I am driving along cycles seem to get in the way to day one got in my way and I had to brake or hit him.

Can they stay in lain and not drift all over the place.

Then if I had hit him it would of been my fault.

Not happy!

Have you ever considered getting a driving licence? Sound like you need to at least get some driving lessons. For the record I am an ex-driving instructor and an advanced driver. People like you shouldn't be allowed to drive, you are a danger to your self and others.

Some of the roads I go down are narrow and as a result some times you can't give the person the room they need.

you need to revist the highway code, if there isn't enough room to pass safely you SHOULD NOT overtake.

I even got a cheery wave the other day for giving a cyclist the correct amount of room when everyone else had passed a tad closer than they should.

But we also know that there are some rubbish cyclists out there just like there are some rubbish drivers.

Ahh, that'll explain the grammar

That was a joke by the way. On a serious note, I do think we you lot have given John a bit of a hard time. C'mon, we can hardly blame him for his ignorance or accuse him of trolling. Hes only posted 7 times!

I was going to *politely* point out some of the points that have already been mentioned, but I've been beaten to it. They were :

  1. Overtake safely. Cyclists might swerve/wobble. So give them extra room. If there is not enough room to do that. *Do not* overtake. <insert meerkat catchphrase>
  2. Wobbling cyclists may be inexperienced. Or it may be windy. Or the road surface may be dangerous. Even more reason to follow point #1
  3. It is a bit strange that as a motorist, you join a cycle forum to rant about cyclists. Maybe its not a rant, but a series of questions. That part of your post is a little ambiguous
