Cycle Camera Head Bob?

I considered putting this in the Know How section, but hope mods will understand why I put it here in commuting instead, as this is more the 'cam expert' area

I've recently got a ContourRoam, but using it on my helmet (using a vented helmet mount) I get awful camera bob - the footage just bounces up and down constantly. The helmet is correctly fitted (honest!). Its not the camera as when I use the bar mount it works perfectly. Unfortunately I dont have this luxury on the CX bike, as theres no additional space on the bars.

I just wondered if anyone else ever had this issue, and if they found any way to solve it?

Yep, I had the same issue when I first started using mine. The problem is the vented mount. As it is adjustable, the pivot points are a little bit loose when locked in one position.
To resolve this, I decided to use a very small piece of cardboard and slot it between the mount plate and mount body. It might be a buggar to get in there but it stops the wobble.
Either that or if you knew that you werent going to ever adjust it, you could superglue the pivot points.

What I did was I use the stick mount with 360 degrees twist. Stuck it onto the flattest area of my helmet and then secured it with 2 cable ties. Works a charm. I haven't used the vented mount(couldn't be bothered to pay for it ) so i cant help you with that but only say what i have done.

I have some camera shake but I don't think it's a lot. I reported something to Plod and the officer said something about getting motion sickness but I like to kid myself that he meant I'm quick.

Maybe I've become used to shaky video but have found that the straps loosen in the buckles. Give them a good tug now and then and it should hold the camera tight. Can't say I've had Matthew's problem with the pivot.

Thanks for the advice. The straps are as tight as I could possibly make them - I'll give Matts suggestion a try when next I'm out.

I really don't want it to be my riding style!

I'm also going to try putting it on a different part of the helmet as its a little low anyway so wouldn't hurt to be moved backwards.

I ended up using four heavy duty cable ties to attach the mount to my helmet. The problem Matthew mentions I fixed with blu tack, fixes the movement without compromising the breakability of the mounting.
Although considering the state of the ever increasing number of roads, not much can stop head bobbing.

Make sure the mount is in an up or down position (it swivels), those positions are more secure than the centre position which can cause a bobbing issue.
