Due to a very unfortunate episode the fact I posted on Cycle Chat while at work very nearly got me fired from the first actual job I've had in my adult life (having been self-employed for many many years). I did not pass go, I went straight to final warning. Not pretty. Brutally un-pretty.

Be careful out there folk!

In other news, and not entirely related (honest), I have resigned and will be back in business from 1st July.

A friend of mine got fired from the civil service without the usual first verbal warning, second verbal and then a written one, which is common practice. The civil service is now £12,000 worse off after the unfair dismissal tribunal waded in.
Out of interest, was it directly because of your CC use, or was that secondary and used as an excuse?
It was personal use of Internet, before that day everything appeared to be going marvellously.

I went straight from bonuses and pay rises to final grim warning. Not my greatest moment, but this coupled with continued post-natal type depression type issues in my life, and the fact I really miss tinternet work made the path forward clear. I am good at Internet stuff, it has made clear to me that I am not good at selling big machines.
OK. Did it come out of a log check or did someone spot you and then look into it?
I foolishly made a quick post to my blog (took a minute or two), which syndicated to Facebook, which I guess the business owner was surfing at the time.

If you were posting on Cyclechat rather than working then see it from your employers point of view. They are paying to work not post your musings on a forum.
Having said that a final warning is very harsh i agree.

It's the way everyone works these days, it's just like chatting with colleagues in my opinion. And that's my opinion as a previous employer of other humans.

What happened to you is harsh but in my opinion there is an important distinction. Chatting with colleagues is building relationships that help get work done in the long run. Chatting on here is just abusing your employer's trust and wasting their money.
