Cycle Computer Help

Hi Guys

I have just bought a turbo trainer and I am wondering if I need to buy a cycle computer that will record the distance, and speed that i am doing or if a iphone app will do the trick.
I use Strava for when im out on the road and that uses GPS but as I wont be leaving my living room I am guessing this wont work, or am I wrong

A cheap wired computer (circa £10-£15) will suffice. Attach to the seatstay and magnet on the rear wheel. Most have enough wire to bring it up to the front end of the top tube or if your lucky into the handlebars
