I only wish it's just ranting for the sake of the column and she's not really that hopeless on the roads, otherwise this lady might be a jeopardy to other people.

I think i'd be more inclined to give hand signals if the road surfaces were anywhere near decent.

I also note the silly answers to cycling problems at the bottom of the same page in the paper. Someone wrote in and asked what to look out for when buying a secnod-hand bike. The response was to check that there's no bulge behind the fork, which is evidence of a crash, and that you can ride hands-free on it.

I could think of some far more obvious things to look out for, like worn brake surfaces for one.
