Are signs that say this advisory or a legal requirement?
The reason I'm asking is that I drove home yesterday and noticed some roadworks with this sign and it's where I'm going to be cycling all next week. It's where 2 lanes of traffic become 1, right before they become 2 lanes again so people don't usually go in to 1 lane, they drive on the ghost island at one side and in to the cycle lane at the other.
I have a feeling I'm going to get in to an argument if I don't dismount, just wondered if it was something I HAVE to adhere to (if it's safe not to dismount) and also, if you do HAVE to, when are you allowed to re-mount?

Unless there's a cycling prohibited (circular sign, white ground and red border with pictogram of cyclist) carry on riding. Other signs are advisory. Be careful though if you need to ride on a foot way - that might bring you into conflict with the law.

Cycle lane closed just means that it is closed, you can still ride in the road and as a driver I would expect to see cyclists in the road after seeing such a sign.

They aren't worth the price of the sign they're printed on. Legally on their own they are advisory and you can ignore them.

No signage about the closed off cycle path.

I have always wondered if the Cyclists Dismount signs on shared use paths were really necessary. On my commute I have to cross over a bridge which is wide enough for cyclists and peds to use. I always give way to peds and are patient if they have dogs. However, that doesnt stop people giving me looks and commenting when I ride over the bridge.
The signs have a blue background and white text, so are they legal restrictions or advisory?

EDIT: Picture of said bridge here with cyclist going over it.

I know where that is (I hope I'm right!) http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=Kir...near=Kirkstall+Rd,+Leeds,+United+Kingdom&z=20

Ignore it - all other cyclists I have seen do.

Just ride on the road, whoever put those signs up is not providing a decent alternative, if drivers have issues with it, ignore them, you have a right to ride where is safest, don't let them question it.
