Cycle lanes what do we think?

Until then I'll plan my route to miss out the Dual Carriageway.

Sadly many of us don't have the choice, other than leaving the bike at home and using a car or bus.

A big problem in these discussions is the definition of 'Cycle Lanes'.

To me a cycle lane is the edge of the road or pavement zoned off for cyclists. It isn't a separate cycle track at all.

A properly designed and built cycle track or path is a great thing. A cycle lane is simply a shoddy (and dangerous*) pretext at providing facilities for cyclists.

*been there, got the injury and compensation payout to prove it.

Cycle lanes done properly are a thing of beauty allowing a cyclist to ride at silly speeds in a dedicated lane for them but allowing them to seamlessly move into the flow of motorised traffic when needed to pass those road users who are travelling much slower. Thing is, I've never seen a cycle lane done properly in the UK.
